Valerie's diverse background, global perspective and cross-cultural skills allow her to manage a wide range of projects and personalities across cultures and time zones. Whether managing the infinite details of doing research on-location, observing the rituals of preparing dinner, interviewing shoppers in their local bodega, or leading multicultural training workshops, Valerie applies her cross-cultural management and moderating skills to help organizations better understand the needs and aspirations of people all around the world.

A passion to understand people’s motivations, desires, hopes, fears and dreams around the globe, combined with her desire to make a difference in the quality of people's lives, led Valerie to develop Research Without Borders, a global network of localized experts and partners that also supports local economic development in the emerging markets.

A transcultural consumer herself, Valerie understands the roles that culture and context play in influencing beliefs, attitudes and behavior and is the author of Beyond Translation; The Marketer's Field Guide to Understanding Today's Transcultural Consumer which delivers insight and strategy into connecting with the consumers of the top three emerging majorities in the US:  the Hispanic/Latino, Pacific-Asian and Asian-Indian markets.

Valerie has worked as an independent market research solutions provider since 2003. Prior to launching Moving Target Research, she worked at America’s leading research houses where she developed and honed her skills from the ground up, literally; recruiting participants in the field, interviewing respondents on-site, moderating dyads and triads in-language, managing and fielding multiple consumer projects across categories. In her previous life, Valerie was a producer and managed all aspects of global advertising production for general market, Hispanic and International clients. Twenty years of cross-cultural business experience combined with a hands-on approach means Valerie lives by the golden rule of never taking anything for granted by anticipating and preparing accordingly.

Born in Paris, France, Valerie has crossed the transcultural divide time and again, having lived in London, Madrid, Manhattan, South Beach, and Malibu. A self-proclaimed aging hipster, she now resides amongst them, sans tattoo in San Francisco’s Mission District.

Currently, Valerie is developing “A Day in the Life of the Next 4 Billion”. From Mumbai to Mexico City, Shanghai to São Paolo, this ethnographic documentary series features the personal stories, rituals and intimate moments of the every day lives of next 4 billion.
